Alto is a market leading enterprise cloud-based CRM and financial Property Management accounting software. Having joined ZPG in 2015 we are part of a huge group of innovative property software products. We work with the UK`s leading property portals, have approx. 40,000 users of our software and operate from several UK locations with a team of 215 staff.

We`re seeking a high-calibre, highly experienced Head of Development to lead, shape and manage our team of 12 in-house engineers to create a class-leading development practice. We`re looking for the best-of-the-best. An Individual who has extensive experience leading teams developing and delivering large scale, complex enterprise cloud applications used by thousands of concurrent users. Those who have seen-it-all and bought the t-shirt, who know what works, what doesn`t and can create a long-term vision and execute it all while maintaining the highest levels of quality, ownership and responsibility across all team output.

You`ll be directly accountable for the core basics such as accurate estimations and the regular shipment of high quality, high performing timely releases right through to achieving our plans for continuous integration/deployment and zero-downtime upgrades. Working closely with our Infrastructure Director and Head of QA you`ll be a vital contributor to improving our DevOps practise and automated testing strategies.

Skillset split: we expect the successful candidate to be 40% deep technical hands-on / 60% management, projects and people. You will be a strategic, pragmatic business-aware individual that gets cloud applications and the teams, processes and tooling required to build and support them.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Extensive experience of software and application development, of owning and managing a large technically complex enterprise application throughout its entire software development lifecycle (ideally CRM or similar)
  • Expert experience of managing and leading a development team (strong management experience including 1-2-1`s, appraisals and reviews)
  • Experience with software development methodologies, standards and design patterns
  • Well versed in source control management techniques including complex branching strategies and their implementation
  • Expert in C#.Net, MVC, SQL Server, jQuery, JavaScript, Ajax, HTML & CSS
  • Expert knowledge of performance tuning and scaling
  • Expert skills in planning and communicating
  • The ability to motivate and energise a team and create an effective culture
  • Passion for technology and a love of trying new things
  • A can do attitude and an ability to remove blockers and keep things moving
  • Good knowledge of IT infrastructure and support methods


  • Trouble-free, high-quality and on-time new product releases
  • Ensure that the software is properly architected and developed in line with existing and future technologies
  • Drive the improvement of technical best practices, architecture and code reviews
  • Co-ordinate and manage activities across multiple development work streams in a cohesive and supportive manner
  • Own the Technical Roadmap
  • Drive innovative technical solutions in the areas of architecture, integration, tools and performance optimisation
  • Define effective measurements to measure success (KPIs)
