Job Description

Reporting into the Head of Commercial (Energy) the purpose of this role is to ensure continued growth in uSwitch`s Energy P&L, by building best in class relationships with companies in the energy industry.

This role will be responsible for:

  • Building new profitable commercials relationships with preferred Energy suppliers
  • Maintaining & optimising a portfolio of current commercial relationships with a range of product suppliers as well as strategic partners
  • Ensuring that uSwitch`s proposition to Energy suppliers remains competitive
  • Developing, researching and delivering new commercial initiatives to help grow the Energy P&L
  • Managing the reputation and commercial agreements of the uSwitch Energy P&L, alongside the Head of Commercial (Energy)

The successful candidate will need demonstrable commercial and business development experience and a strong working knowledge of the Energy industry. We`re looking for a self-starter, with a passion for spotting opportunities and a determined approach to going after them. You`ll love to work within a team and will be great building relationships internally and externally, but you`ll also be more than capable of setting your own goals and driving progress towards them.

Your Role:

uSwitch is an agile business, and with that in mind, we`d expect the successful candidate to be adaptable to the opportunities that arise to generate & protect revenue for the Energy P&L. This is an indicative, but not exhaustive list of the ways you might do that:

  • Build and maintain best in class relationships with existing suppliers across a portfolio of products; spotting and delivering opportunities to optimise our results, ensuring risks are appropriately managed and the Energy P&L is kept up-to-date with key developments
  • Lead on business development of new relationships with suppliers, defining our priorities and processes, managing our contact with prospective partners and seeing these through to successful contract negotiation and on-boarding
  • Identifying and testing new commercial opportunities for the channel, including negotiating market-leading exclusive deals for our customers
  • Lead the Home Services product P&L, setting goals & priorities, managing partner portfolio, reporting performance and delivery of revenue targets
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of our data product and energy market and use this to develop relationships and uSwitch`s market position
  • Be a source of commercial support and energy industry insight to teams across the Energy P&L
  • Contribute to strategic thinking across the Energy P&L
  • Work closely with internal business stakeholders across the ZPG group for the development of commercial opportunities
  • Proactively identifying, testing and implementing new or additional commercial opportunities for the channel
  • Informing the team of developments in the marketplace, such compliance and regulatory changes, competitors and market trends
  • Representing the brand at industry and media events & obtaining value for the business from annual customer surveys
  • Possibility to act as an Energy spokesperson in the media, representing uSwitch in press, radio and TV

Your Skills

We`re looking for a proactive and ambitious individual with a minimum of 5 years experience owning and developing relationships with third parties. They`ll be highly personable, driven and knowledgeable in business development.

  • Proven, quantifiable business development expertise
  • Must be an excellent communicator have very strong interpersonal skills with
  • internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly numerically literate with a data driven approach to decision making
  • Experienced negotiator of high value contracts
  • Strong commercial acumen
  • Understanding of the energy industry highly beneficial
  • A self starter, able to work independently and drive own progress
  • Enjoys collaborating to set a strategy
  • Experience of scoping new opportunities and co-ordinating delivery
  • A clear understanding of how to deliver excellent account service in practice
