We are seeking an experienced, high-performing web development manager to lead our web team as we build the next generation of our award winning websites.

Job Description

We`re proud of our sites which attract over 50 million visitors per month, and our website developers are at the forefront of it. You`ll be leading a team in building the front-end platform serving most functions of the business, including customer-facing and partner websites. We recently embarked on a re-platforming initiative using cutting-edge techniques and tooling so you`ll join us at an exciting time where your hard work and expertise can make a big difference. As well as leading the web developers, some of your time will involve hands-on development providing valuable input into design and platform architecture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead our team of web developers in crafting industry-leading sites and features

  • Hire and mentor new developers, maintaining a culture of innovation, teamwork and self-improvement

  • Work with your team in making technical decisions and advising the wider product development team on best practice and feasibility

  • Collaborate closely with UX and visual designers to build the best experience for our users

Required Skills:

  • Leadership of a team of professional website developers

  • Strong experience in developing high traffic consumer websites

  • In-depth knowledge of modern HTML, CSS & Javascript and fully comfortable with coding mobile-first responsive pages

  • Good knowledge of unit and functional testing

  • No stranger to the command line, with a thorough understanding of modern frontend tooling

  • A great aesthetic sense and awareness of usability

  • Knowledgeable and comfortable with Agile development practices

  • Experience with large web development projects, working in teams that includes product owners, developers, UX/visual design specialists and testers

  • Keen interest in the latest trends while keeping a balanced view of the pros/cons of each

  • Server-side page rendering using Node.js / Express would be a bonus

We`re based in a vibrant area that`s full of history. Built on the site of the old Courage brewery, our "Cooperage" offices are located right next to Tower Bridge on the south side of the Thames.

Our workplace has many great features, from the gym, games room and in-house barista to the free breakfasts and snacks.

It`s an exciting time for us on the frontend as we`re redeveloping our whole site to a unified responsive design served by a new Node.js / Express / Handlebars architecture. Our platform is built on Amazon Web Services, and we`re working towards a process of Continuous Delivery / Deployment.

You`ll be part of a cross-functional agile team that comprises frontend and backend developers, QA, UX and visual designers and a product owner, holding regular planning, retro and demo sessions.
